What is a Counsellor?
I often get the question "What is a counsellor?" I feel that it is important to know who you are seeing to ensure you feel safe and in the right hands.

A counsellor is another psychological professional, such as myself. We study 4 years in psychology and have an honours degree in the field. We do a lot of similar work to psychologists and work closely with them.
As a counsellor I aim to address the mental health needs of my clients. I use my training and knowledge to provide psychological interventions to improve a person's or group's wellbeing. Counsellors often work alongside other professionals and may refer clients to social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, etc. if necessary. We aim to provide psychological services, assessments and support to all.
Picking the Right Counsellor
Picking the right counsellor can be difficult and overwhelming. This is the person you're opening up to. This is all normal! It is a very personal decision, so it's important you take time and ensure you feel good with your decision. But how do we do this? Try looking at their approach, specialties and your own preferences.

It sometimes takes times, and it is normal to see multiple people before finding the right counsellor for you. When booking a session with me, feel free to ask any questions that will help you make the best decision.
Why Online Counselling?
Online counselling is fairly new and is gaining popularity. It offers an array of benefits and is an effective way of getting mental health services.

Online counselling is considered convenient, accessible, comfortable and affordable. You are able to have sessions in your safe space and at your convenience, which may help people who struggle with time. It is also more accessible to people who are ill, have physical limitations or who have transport issues. This also makes it more affordable as you don't have to pay for petrol and/or public transport.
